How to unlock a PDF
Typing the same password every time you open your own bank statement gets old. Unlocking saves a copy with no password on it, for the files you keep on your own computer anyway.

- Press Unlock it, and a copy with no password is saved.
Two kinds of lock
Some PDFs need a password to open at all. For those you have to know the password, and the right one is the only thing that works.
Others open freely but will not let you print, copy text or make changes. Those are unlocked straight away, with no password asked for.
What this tool will not do
It does not guess passwords, try lists of them, or break encryption. If you do not know the password to open a file, this is not the way in - ask whoever sent it to you.

Good to know
- I forgot the password. Can this open it?
- No. It needs the password to open the file, and it does not guess or break passwords.
- It says there is nothing to unlock.
- The file has no password and no restrictions on it. If a reader still refuses to print it, the reason is somewhere else - try Repair PDF.
- Is the original changed?
- No. A new copy without the password is saved, and the original stays exactly as it was.
- Is anything uploaded?
- No. The file is unlocked in your browser. That matters here more than anywhere: the password never leaves your computer.
