How to get the text from a PDF
Copying from a PDF usually gives you broken lines, missing spaces and page numbers in the middle of sentences. This reads the whole file and puts the words back in order.
- Drop the PDF on the box at the top.
- Choose Paragraphs, or Lines as on the page.
- Tick the box if you want to see where each page starts.
- Press Get the text, then copy it or press Save the text file.
Paragraphs or lines
Paragraphs joins the lines of each paragraph back together, which is what you want to paste into an email, a translator or a chat. Lines keeps every line break the page had, which suits poems, addresses and lists.
Good to know
- Why is nothing found in my file?
- It is probably a scan: pictures of pages with no words inside. OCR PDF reads the words from the pictures first.
- Is the formatting kept?
- No. Plain text has no bold, sizes or tables. For those, use PDF to Word.
- Is the PDF uploaded?
- No. The text is read in your browser.
