How to turn an ODS file into a PDF
ODS is the spreadsheet format of LibreOffice Calc and OpenOffice, and one Google Sheets and Excel can save too. A PDF of it can be read on any phone and cannot be changed by accident.
- Drop the .ods file on the box at the top.
- Check what was found: the sheets, rows and columns.
- Press Make the PDF, and look at the first page.
- Press Save the PDF.
What is kept, and what is not
Every sheet with something in it becomes a table, with the sheet name above it and the first row in bold. Hidden sheets, hidden rows and empty sheets are left out, and blank rows and columns around the edge are trimmed.
Each cell is shown exactly as the spreadsheet displayed it when it was saved, so dates, money and percentages look right. Formulas are not worked out again. Colours, borders, charts and pictures are not carried over. A wide sheet is turned on its side.
Good to know
- Is there a limit?
- A sheet is cut at 2,000 rows and 20 columns, and the tool says so when it does. Past that, a printed table stops being readable.
- Why is my chart missing?
- A chart is drawn by the spreadsheet program, not stored as a picture, so it cannot be redrawn here. The tool tells you when one was left out.
- Is the spreadsheet uploaded?
- No. It is opened and laid out by your browser, on your computer.
