Why Arabic comes out backwards

A PDF keeps letters at places on the page, not sentences. Many programs store Arabic letters in the order they are drawn, left to right, so copying them gives the words backwards, the lines in the wrong order, or joined-up letter shapes that a search box cannot find.

This tool puts each line back together from right to left, works out which way the file stored its letters, and turns the letter shapes back into normal letters.

  1. Drop the PDF on the box at the top.
  2. Press Fix the text.
  3. Read the text in the box. If the words are still backwards, press Turn them round, then Fix the text again.
  4. Press Copy it all, or save it as a text file.

Guides that use this tool

Good to know

It says no Arabic text was found.
The pages are probably scans or photos, so the words are pictures with no letters stored in them. They cannot be copied, and the OCR on this site reads English letters only.
Does it work with English mixed in?
Yes. English words and numbers inside an Arabic line are kept left to right.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. The text is read in your browser.
